Vanilla Mob Spawning Changes

Summary​

We have had many requests to fix the mob spawning rates on Vanilla. We have made some changes to fix the issue and will continue to optimize the spawning and find the perfect balance between the spawn rates and server performance.

Why not just turn it up all the way?

Mobs (entities) use a large amount of computing power; an overload of entities on a server can cause the TPS to drop, which will then cause lag.

What has changed so far?

  • Player mob spawn radius increased by 1 chunk.
  • The spawn rates have been increased by around 30% to 50%, depending on the mob type.
  • The spawn limits have been increased by around 25% to 35%.
  • Player view distance increased by 1 chunk.

Things to note

  • Mob spawn rates and limits are per player and not per server.
  • Mob cap is per chunk or group of mobs and not the server.
  • Chunks and groups of mobs will still have a hard mob cap separate from the spawn rates and limits.
We do not expect a single update to fix all the mob issues, and this is why we will continue making changes during the next few days/weeks, depending on the outcome of previous changes.

We aim to get our Vanilla server as close to the Vanilla experience as possible while keeping it a quality and lag-free environment. We love to hear suggestions and ideas from our players.
